February Check-In

I read daily according to God's establishment commandment the following in February:

  • Romans through Revelation twice per week
  • 2 Kings 21 through Acts
  • Genesis through 2 Kings
In addition, I listened to lessons five and six of the new Romans TSABS lessons and the 1 Peter, 2 Peter and 1 John lessons in the old school.  I also listened to the WELCOME HOME Dragomir recording, rejoicing to know that he his finally with family.  Love you brother!

There are many things I learned, but today I will focus only on one.

Many times I have read 1 Corithians 10:7:

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

However, I never was able to see the connection between idolatry, and eating and drinking and rising up to play.  I knew that the verse was referring to Exodus 32:6:

And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Yet I still never understood the connection.  I learned long ago not to try and figure out a passage from my own stupid thinking. I just believe the passage or verse, and then move on.

Well, in the course of my reading this month, I finally was enlightened. In Acts 7:41, we read:

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play because they rejoiced in the works of their own hands (the molten calf).

Perhaps many saw the connection before. Even so, I am grateful for the eyes of my understanding being enlightened.

Father, I thank thee for the holy scriptures, and the Holy Spirit, my guide and my teacher.

Amen.
